Find Index Of Character In String Python

In this article we will show you the solution of find index of character in string python, an index is returned by the find() method for the first occurrence of the specified character or String.

This function returns the position of the character or substring if the character or substring is found. Strings are indexed from 0 to 1.

An error message will be displayed if the function cannot find the requested character or String.

The parameter sub_str, the start parameter, and the stop parameter are required. So, let's see what the syntax and parameters look like.

Find() returns a String with the following syntax :-

#Syntax of find()
string.find(sub_str,start,stop)

Using len(), we can first determine the length of the string and then determine the position of the character within it.

Using the len() function, one can obtain the length of a string by passing it a string as an argument.

StrLen is a variable that stores the length of the string. When the string length is determined, the range() function will create an object that contains values between 0 and strLen-1.

Input argument strLen is passed to range() and range objects are returned.

We will now discuss the idea of a find index of character in string python with example.

Step By Step Guide On Find Index Of Character In String Python :-

Mystr="TalkersCode Example"
print("input is:",Mystr)
strLen=len(Mystr)
range_obj=range(strLen)
character="A"
for index in range_obj:
    if Mystr[index]==character:
        print("The characters {} is at index {}".format(character,index))
        break
  1. Our first step will be to define a variable named position and initialize it to -1.
  2. In the next step, the len() function will be used to find the string's length.
  3. After we iterate through the characters in the string using a while loop, the next step will be to bind the characters to the string. Defining the exit condition is based on whether the position variable is greater than or equal to the length of the string.
  4. As a first step, we will increment the position inside the while loop.
  5. As soon as we have determined if the character in the current position matches the character we're searching for, we will proceed to the next step. A printout of the position of the character will be produced if yes, and the while loop will be excited by a break statement. Our next character will be used if we do not receive a response.
  6. The index of the first instance of the character in the string can be obtained after the while loop has been executed.

Conclusion :-

As a result, we have successfully learned to find the index of characters in string python.

A comprehensive tutorial explaining Python's string handling mechanisms, including string operators and built-in functions, indexing and slicing, and built-in methods, is provided in this tutorial.

As part of your introduction, you also learned about bytes and bytearrays.

You have examined the first composite types so far—those built from smaller pieces.

I hope this article on find index of character in string python helps you and the steps and method mentioned above are easy to follow and implement.
